Thank you, yes, there is a release of air when the fuel cap is removed; it is definitely not a vacuum issue. Any ideas as to the cause? _________________ Hard choices |

Breather to expansion tank under r/h rear wheel may be blocked - check.
I have this as I am using a multi vent tank in my 110 with the vents blocked off as expansion tank is NLA at Land Rover. Not been a problem so far...... |

Mine does this. Makes a hissing sounds when I unscrew the cap. I could have sworn I've seen a post on this board a couple of years ago that said that it's totally normal and meant to so that.
I'll have a search...

Couldn't find any reference to it. I must have been drunk.

Thanks Rob,
It's reassuring to hear that other people seem to have a pressurising fue tank but what concerns me is that it didn't used to do it so I am wondering if there is a problem of feedback from the ECU or a blocked charcoal filter as I have seen on American (Rover) V8 blogs. _________________ Hard choices |

Hmmm. Interesting. Mine seems to run fine like it is.
I'll keep an eye on this thread if anyone has any further info.
cheers

Probably totally unrelated but I used to have a Mk2 Jag that did this. Engine would even cut out after a while.
Renewed the filler cap and sorted!

I tried a different filler cap and the original. Both vent into the tank to allow air in to replace the fuel as it's used, not out into atmosphere. However, I'm pretty sure the air hisses out of the tank when I open the cap to fill up. I'm baffled. She seems to run OK.
thanks

My Defender 50th does the same as does my V8i Discovery. I have always assumed its normal. Both cars run fine. |
