|
|
Hi All,
I drove by 50th yesterday with no problems. Went to start her this morning and the engine turns over fine, starts OK, then as soon as its started it cuts out. I try again and it starts, then within a second it stops. Tried several times with the same experience. Tried again this evening and it repeated the same behaviour. Any ideas?
thanks

could be the immobiliser… have you tried the other key fob? in case the current one is faulty and not doing its job. |

Thanks. The immobilizer appears to switch off OK. The indicators flash and the dashboard red light stops flashing - so I think we are OK there.
Interestingly I charged the battery overnight and she started up fine this morning. I wonder if the battery is on its way out. Maybe it's got enough power to turn the engine over and get it to fire, but not enough to sustain the right voltage for the electronics?
Any comments?
Anyway I'll try a new battery. The old one has been in for about 5 years so must be due.
cheers

Not sure if you've got it fixed, but that is what happens when the air flow meter isn't working. It will fire, but cuts out when it hits 500 RPM. May be worth checking the connections. If that looks OK a diagnostic reader would pick up if the air flow meter wasn't being seen by the ECU. |

Thanks. Sorry - I should have posted an update:
The root cause was a worn ignition switch barrel. The detents between the different steps of the barrel had worn so that when you turned the key to fire up the engine it started OK, but when the key was let go it sprang back to the "off" position and killed the engine. I only realised what was happening when I held the key and slowly allowed it to return to the Run position - the engine carried on running. Then tapping the key was enough to return it to the Off position and kill the engine again.
I replaced the barrel and key and she's run sweet as a nut ever since
thanks for replying though.
cheers
